Chapter 85
Chapter 85:.
“No, I don’t want to go to that house…”. Her intermittent speaking was heard and on Joseph’s tense face a look of sympathy came over his face. He was thirteen when his father passed away and although his mother was gone, he still had his grandfather, who had raised him from a young age.
His grandfather was still alive and well to this day, he was energetic and had always liked to take him to task. However, Hayden was different, he had lost his mother shortly after he was born. Although his father was still alive, he had started another family.
After living with her grandfather for a few years, he passed away. She was then accepted back into the Downey Family by her father, but no matter what, she was in an awkward position. She was supposed to be the rightful owner of the house, but it turned out that she was the one living under someone else’s roof.
Her only childhood friend, Kevin Jackman used to comment that she was stubborn. He once thought it was the environment that made one stubborn, but as far as the environment Hayden grew up in was concerned, she should have been more stubborn compared to him.
However, it turned out that she had lived so freely that she even rejected the identity of second daughter of the Downey Family and worked as a manager in a hotel. He used to think he knew her very well, that she was just an ordinary woman, shrewd in her work, but brainless in everyday life. However, as he lived with her for a while, he realized that there were many things he didn’t know about her.

It was raining more and more heavily. Joseph frowned, gazed out over the mist-shrouded ocean and asked, “How much further are we from shore?”
“We’re almost there, please calm down, it usually stops raining here after five or ten minutes.” Explained the man as he steered the boat, he was trying to use maximum speed to get back to shore. After taking them both back to the hotel, Joseph realized that there was still a storm outside after half an hour had passed.
Only then did the weather station issue a storm warning and all the fishing boats on the sea surface were urgently withdrawn. Some small boats had capsized in the ocean and the salvage team was sent to the rescue. “Mr. Beckham, you…”.
Several Ray-Trace Media employees were waiting for news of Freddie in the main hall of the hotel. Seeing Joseph bringing Hayden back, they were all startled.
“Call a doctor.” Joseph said without a squeak. He brought Hayden upstairs with her mouth open and her eyes bugged out.
“She’s just seasick. Since she’s not on the boat now, she doesn’t have to take pills. I guess, getting wet in the rain, she has a bit of a fever. She’ll be fine after she takes an antipyretic and sleeps.”
After being seen that there wasn’t much wrong with her, the doctor was led out of the room by the show stewards. Joseph also followed them, after dismissing the doctor, one of the attendants turned around and was surprised to see him, but greeted him anyway.
Joseph nodded and said, “Have a nurse come and take care of her tonight.”
The Show staff let out an uncomfortable look when they heard that, “Mr. Beckham, you know, we haven’t seen a storm for many years, a lot of things have happened. There are not many medical facilities on the island anymore, and as a ferry heading to the resort island is said to have capsized, there are many casualties and the hospital is busy.”
Lack of medical staff and now it is very difficult to find a nurse. Hearing that, a nervous and somber look came across Joseph’s face. “What ferry?”
He suddenly remembered the fact that Stella had not returned until now.noveldrama
The presenter thought he was worried that something was wrong with Freddie and quickly explained, “Don’t worry, Mr. Beckham, it’s not the one Freddie boarded. Freddie and Miss Downey’s daughter have already arrived safely at their destination, they just couldn’t get back because of the storm.”
Joseph’s gaze gradually became calmer.
“As for finding a nurse…”. The presenter hesitated slightly.
“If that’s how the situation is, forget it.” He waved his hand at her and asked her to leave. Then he re-entered the room.
His face was becoming increasingly lifeless as he lay on the dark blue bed. She was not the same person when she was awake. Joseph sat on the edge of the bed and examined her face. Remembering the encounter with her in the elevator, where she had blatantly claimed he was her boyfriend, a soft light appeared in his eyes. This woman was impressive when she acted bold and reckless, but she was capable of melting someone’s heart when she appeared fragile and helpless.
He crouched down and tried to get a clear look at her face. However, as he got closer to her, he found that he could not resist moving in until he rested a kiss on her lips. The sound of rain was loud outside the window and the curtain was being moved by the wind. Raindrops were splashing against the window and, from the haughty shadow visible from the wall, she was kissing someone comatose.
Hayden felt his head heavy. She felt herself floating and sinking rhythmically as if she had fallen into the water. She was feeling someone cover her with a blanket and replace the scarf on her forehead with a cold one to reduce her temperature, still dazed, she knew there was someone beside her, but still she couldn’t help but fall into a dream she had had many years ago.
Back then, her grandfather was going to die of heart failure, and she, who was still young, was lying in bed. Her grandfather’s hand, emaciated like a twig, held her. His eyes were full of worry and he kept reminding her, “Hayden, be a good girl when you come home, you mustn’t be afraid when you do something. Your father still carries you in his heart, if you have suffered; tell him, he won’t refuse to help you.”
“Grandfather, I don’t want to go. I’ll listen to you and I won’t eat so many sweets anymore.” She was like a spectator, listening as the little girl with the two braids cried disconsolately.
She didn’t seem to realize that her grandfather was going to die, and thought he was abandoning her, wanting her to go instead. Suddenly there was a commotion in the hospital and several men and women with bad faces burst into the room.
One of them was a fat permed lady wearing a large luxurious purple coat. When she saw her, she shouted at young Hayden, “You little wretch, you killed your mother when you were born and now look how you killed your own grandfather while you were so young. Why are you all still standing here? Hurry up and get her out of here, the more I see her the more she disgusts me.”
“No, I don’t want to go, Grandpa, Grandpa…”. Young Hayden was dragged out of the room by two adults. She turned around and caught a glimpse of the moment she was being dragged out. The old man on the bed widened his eyes as he watched his little granddaughter being dragged away. He seemed to have something else to say. Amidst his children’s wails of pain, his emaciated hand finally came loose and hung by the side of the bed.
“Hey, so this is the little wretch?”.
“She really has a cockroach’s life.”
“Yeah, that’s her.”
After getting older, Hayden began to be able to understand the comments of the people around her towards her. Not knowing what time it was, after being forced to cower in the corner of the wall, an explosive impulse suddenly surged from within her and she bawled, “I’m not a wretch!”
Thereupon, she shoved the fatty who was spitting on her to the ground. “How dare you push him, you fucking wretch! She’s crazy, she wants to murder someone!”.
“No!” Hayden shrieked and woke from the nightmare with a jolt.
The warmth of the back of his hand gradually brought him back to calm. Seeing Joseph, who was opening his eyes wearily, lying next to her, she gasped. A rumble then pierced the rainy night.
