Chapter 8
Chapter 8:
Dolores slowly raised her head. When she saw the man’s face, she gasped in surprise.
“Dr. Herbert?” There was a group of people with Sampson, and Dolores was even more surprised. “Why, why are they here?”
Sampson was the one who had helped treat Dolores’ brother’s autism. During his treatment, Dolores and Sampson got to know each other.
Sampson smiled softly.
Before he could speak, the hospital director spoke up, “Dr. Herbert is here to conduct a forum at the hospital.”
Sampson was a famous psychiatrist. Most of all he was an expert on autism.
“What about you, why are you here, are you sick?” asked Sampson.
Dolores shuddered at the thought of her mother’s determined attitude.
“Lola!”
Jessica came running up from across the hall with the checklist in her hand. When she returned and the nurse explained that Dolores had escaped, she was shocked. Jessica couldn’t help but scream agitatedly when she saw Dolores.
Dolores pursed her lips and nearly cried. “Mom…”
Sampson looked at the hospital director standing next to her. “Please go ahead of me. I’ll be there shortly. I have something to do.”

“Ah, of course.” The director smiled at Sampson. “We won’t disturb you then. I formally invite you to work in my hospital, Doctor Herbert. No matter what you need, please let me know and I’ll do what I can.”
Sampson smiled back and nodded. “I’ll consider it.”
Once the director and the others left, Sampson looked at Dolores and Jessica. “Let’s go outside and talk. This isn’t the right place,” Sampson said to Jessica.
The hospital was full of people who didn’t have much to do but listen to the conversations of strangers.
Jessica also knew Sampson. When her son received treatments, he couldn’t raise the funds all the time and this Dr. Herbert was the one who helped pay for them. Therefore, Jessica had a lot of respect for him.
Jessica held Dolores’ wrist tightly, fearing that she would run away again.
As soon as they left the hospital, Dolores knelt down in front of Jessica. “Mom, I’m begging you. We’ve already lost Jeremy. Please let me give birth to this child.”
Sampson frowned. ‘What did she mean?’ He looked down and saw Dolores’ hand protectively covering her abdomen. When he saw the reports on Jessica’s hand it confirmed his suspicions that Dolores was pregnant.
He was shocked and did not know how to respond. He wanted to know how it had happened but knew it was not the right time to ask. Dolores rarely cried in front of Jessica. Even when her brother died, she cried in secret, never shedding a tear in front of Jessica.
It wasn’t that Jessica wanted to force her to have an abortion. Instead, she worried about what would happen if Dolores gave birth to the child. Would she still have a future?
However, just becoming a mother was enough to make a vulnerable woman stronger than before. Jessica knew how stubborn Dolores could be and that this was something she would never give up.
With a long sigh, Jessica said, “As you wish.”
Jessica turned and left as soon as she finished speaking. Her heart was overflowing with sadness and she didn’t know how to look at her daughter.
Dolores slowly sat down on the floor. She forced herself to be strong, but her tears of suppressed sadness rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks. She didn’t want to cry, but she couldn’t control herself either. After holding everything in her heart for so long, it tore her apart.
Before Sampson returned from overseas, she discovered that Dolores and Jessica had returned home and that Jeremy had died from injuries sustained in a car accident. He didn’t know what had happened in the meantime, only that he met them at the hospital.
Sampson squatted down and comforted her. When he met her, she was just a teenager. Even then, she was extremely sensitive as she cared for her brother and mother.
He had seen how she was unable to even afford a proper meal. Instead of letting her mother worry, Dolores gave the food she had bought to her mother and brother, telling Jessica that she had already eaten. She was a thoughtful, mature girl who made his heart go out to her.
Sampson wanted to reach out to touch her head and comfort her, but before he could do so, Dolores raised her head and looked at him.
“Thank you for your help in the past. I’ll pay you back in the future when I have money.”
Sampson’s hand paused on her hair. He slowly clenched his fist, dropped it to his side and said with a smile, “Silly girl, I offered to help you, so you don’t have to pay back the money.”
Dolores shook her head. “I know you are a kind person, I will always remember that.”
If she had the chance in the future, she was determined to pay the money back.
Sampson helped her up. “Where do you live? I’ll take you home.”
By this time, Dolores was worried about Jessica. So she nodded and told him the address.
When they reached their destination, Dolores opened the car door and got out.
Sampson called out to her. “Are you going back to the hospital to do an abortion again?”
Dolores turned to look at him and shook her head. “I won’t.”
It wasn’t easy for her to escape the abortion and return home.
Once she arrived, Dolores saw Jessica sitting in a chair and wiping away tears. Dolores’ emotions hit her like a bullet to the chest.
Jessica wiped her tears, not looking at Dolores. “I’m fine. You should come back.”
“Mom…”
“It’s all Mom’s fault for not taking good care of you.” Jessica fervently wiped away her tears, but she couldn’t stop crying no matter what she did.
Dolores rushed over and hugged Jessica. The two embraced as they sobbed to vent their sorrows.
It took them a long time to calm down. Dolores told Jessica about the deal with Matthew and asked her not to worry about her.
Jessica was stunned-how could marriage be treated so irresponsibly, as if it were nothing more than a drinking arrangement?
Although Jessica was not in favor of marriage with an agreement, Dolores had already lost her virginity and was pregnant, she was in a state of gestation. Matthew and the rest of the Nelson Family wouldn’t go for it. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad deal.
Jessica vowed to take care of her daughter in the future.

That night, when Dolores returned to the villa, she discovered that Matthew was gone. After dinner, Dolores strolled around the villa courtyard to digest the meal and take a good look at the gardens and surroundings.
After dark, she returned to her room. However, she found herself too thirsty to sleep, so she went to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
She drank half the glass of water and, as she was about to return to her room to try to sleep, she heard the front door open and swing open. A tall figure walked in, followed by a beautiful silhouette. Dolores was taken aback.
She never expected Matthew to bring back the woman he liked so late at night.
Helen was also startled to see Dolores. Isn’t this the woman we saw earlier at the hospital?
Helen looked at Matthew. His face was taught and cold. Why was he so angry at the hospital? Was it because of this woman?
A woman could always tell when something wasn’t right, and Matthew’s unnatural behavior made Helen wary of Dolores.
“Well, I’m going to my room,” Dolores said, not wanting to be the third wheel and make them angry.
“Wait.” Matthew looked at Dolores. She was wearing a very conservative nightgown that ended at the ankles, showing only her beautiful, slender arms. She looked somewhat innocent.
However, thinking about what she did, Matthew felt a little disgusted. “Helen is the mistress of this house, do you understand what I mean?”
Dolores felt like Matthew was beating a dead horse. She had never considered herself the mistress of the house. Why did she feel the need to emphasize it?
“I know. Then I’m going to bed.” Dolores turned and headed for the bedroom.
“Miss Flores.” Helen looked at her. “I’m sorry.”
Helen’s words puzzled Dolores and she stared at Helen in surprise.
Helen’s expression was full of regret. “Even though I’m engaged to Matthew, I’ve known Matthew long before you. If it weren’t for you, it would be me who would have married him. We love each other very much, so…”
“What exactly do you mean?” Dolores found the woman extremely strange.noveldrama
She was very clear about her identity and had no intention of bothering them. Why was this woman explaining all that?
“She’s already married Matthew, but she doesn’t like him because of me, so I feel guilty about it.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
As anyone could imagine, they had an awkward relationship, and should probably avoid interacting with each other, she thought. Was the woman behaving that way because she wanted to show her kindness in front of Matthew? Without knowing why, Dolores had a bad feeling about the woman in front of her.
Matthew narrowed his eyes and stared at Dolores. “How can you talk to her like that?”
Dolores pursed her lips. She just wanted to live quietly in the house for a month. After getting what belonged to her and Jessica, she would leave.
It was the strange woman who uttered all those strange words. How else was she to respond?
“How do you want me to respond?” Dolores really didn’t know how she should respond to Helen .
