Chapter 27
Chapter 27:.
Dolores calmed down, “Sir, please go back the same way. I forgot to bring something and I have to go back to the company to get it”. The driver pretended not to hear her.
Dolores raised her voice: “Stop, please!”.
The driver drove faster and said in a cold voice, which was very different from his soft voice before: “We haven’t reached the destination.”
Dolores gasped at that moment. Her remaining reasons reminded her that she could not panic at this point. She slowly brought her hand to her leg, trying to pull out her phone to call for help.
The driver sensed her intention and slammed on the brakes.
Caught by surprise, Dolores’ phone slipped from her hand.
“Who…who are you, what do you want to do?” Dolores struggled to suppress her terror and panic.
The driver almost stepped on the gas and shot her a look from the rearview mirror, “Ma’am, you’ve offended someone, haven’t you? I’ve just been hired by someone.”
Dolores’ heart raced and her hands trembled slightly. Who was trying to set her up?
Was it Helen White?
“I can give you money too!” Dolores tried to bargain with the driver.
The driver looked at her. Judging by her cheap clothes, she didn’t look like a rich person.
The driver was not convinced.
Seeing them further away, Dolores made a bold decision. She would have a slight hope of survival if she jumped out of the car, but if she sat in the car obediently, she couldn’t imagine the consequences.
She wrung her hands again and again and finally made up her mind to unlock the safety catch and opened the car door.
The driver shot her a look, “If you jump out of the car, you may die, or at least your skin will peel off. You won’t be able to run away.”
Even if she couldn’t escape, she couldn’t just sit in the car and let the driver take her away. If so, she would meet her end.
She was afraid of that too, but she had no choice.
She reached out to stroke her belly, “Drink, please be strong.”
The wind blew and ruffled her hair. But she was very determined at that moment.
She plucked up her courage and jumped out of the car.
As the car sped away, Dolores knelt with her face to the ground after jumping out of the car. She instantly felt the burning pain in her knees and felt as if all her blood was rushing to her wounds.
However, she didn’t care much and ran desperately after getting up from the ground.
The driver did not expect her to jump out of the car. He stopped the car, got out of it and chased after her.
Dolores limped at low speed as she had to endure the severe pain with every step.
She gritted her teeth to endure the pain, for it was clear to her that if she stopped, she would meet her end.
“Stop!” The driver was about to catch up with her.
But Dolores simply ran like a madwoman with all her might.
She ran desperately for her life.
There was light from the grove not far away, so Dolores guessed that there might be someone in the grove. At this critical moment, she could only save herself by calling for help.
She disappeared into the grove and ran towards the light while shouting “help”, hoping to attract the attention of others.
The driver was of a good build, while Dolores was hurt earlier and then caught by the driver. “Don’t try to escape,” the driver said.
He dragged her toward the road and tried to pull her back into the car.
Dolores turned around and bit his arm. The driver screamed in pain and slapped her on the cheek, “You bitch! How dare you bite me?”
Dolores kept biting and blood was dispersing in her mouth. Unable to bear the pain, the driver loosened his grip. Dolores took the opportunity to squirm and ran even faster than now.
“Stop!” The driver gave chase again, but tripped over something and fell to the ground, giving Dolores a chance to escape.noveldrama
As she got closer, she discovered that the light was coming from a villa.
She ran towards the villa and banged on the door, “Help, somebody help me, please!”.
The knocking was very loud.
Just then, the driver caught up with her. He stared at Dolores who was already cornered, “Run away? Go on, go! Let me see where you can go.”
Dolores turned a deaf ear to his words and increased the force as she knocked on the door, “Is anyone…”
Before she could finish her words, the door slowly opened and a slender figure stepped out. As he walked against the light, Dolores could barely see his face under the harsh glare. She squinted, “Help.”
Just as she finished the word, her legs buckled as her knees gave way and she fell to the floor.
In her trance, she thought she saw the slender figure rush at her and catch her.
“Lola,” Sampson called to her with concern.
Dolores struggled to wear a smile and discovered it was Sampson, “Sampson…”
The driver sensed something was wrong, as they both knew each other, so he turned and ran off.
Sampson shot him a look but didn’t chase after him as Dolores was his main concern at the moment.
He led Dolores into the villa. In the bright light, he finally saw her mutilated and bleeding knees.
“How did you hurt yourself?” he asked with great concern.
Dolores did not have the strength to utter a word. Since she was relaxed at the time, the pain had taken all her strength.
Sampson placed her on the couch, “I’m going to get the first aid kit and clean your wounds to see if it’s serious.”
“Sampson, who is that woman?” a lady asked. She looked elegant and noble with her hair up plus she was wearing a huge emerald ring on her hand.
She was now looking up and down at Dolores, who was sitting on the couch.
Dolores was also studying the lady who was dressed elegantly and appeared to be from an extraordinary family.
Here…
The villa was decorated in a European style. The large crystal chandelier on the ceiling sparkled with white lights and illuminated the entire living room, which looked luxurious in every way.
This was Sampson’s residence?
He… Was he rich?
Sampson did not answer the lady’s question. He walked over to the cabinet, took out the medicine cabinet, put it on the table, opened it, and then bent down in front of Dolores, “You may feel the pain when you get the disinfectants on your wounds. Try to endure it.” Dolores nodded.
The lady seemed annoyed by Sampson’s attitude, “Mary has been missing for so many years. How long are you going to punish yourself?”
Sampson didn’t want to talk about this subject, “Mama, please go back to your room.”
“Sampson…”
“Mom.” Sampson accentuated her tone and fixed her gaze on the middle-aged woman, “I don’t want to talk about the past anymore. Since I’m back this time, I won’t be going abroad again.”
Camilla Carey was overjoyed. Sampson had been alone abroad for the past few years and refused to tell his family which country he was in. He would just send them a letter every year, to assure them that he was still alive and safe.
He had been missing him for many years, and simply hoped that he would be able to return home.
Seeing that he was finally shedding the shadow of Mary’s disappearance and was ready to come home, Camilla was gratified.
But she was still worried that her son would leave again and wished he would stay home for good.
She thought it would be better for her son to marry a woman in China. Only with such a marriage bond would he have the assurance that he would not leave again.
However, Sampson was so rejecting of him that she dared not push him hard: “It’s all right. I won’t bother you.”
Then she headed for the door with her purse in her hand. She stopped at the door and turned to glance at Dolores, who was sitting on the couch.
Sampson was carefully cleaning her wounds with her head bowed, but she couldn’t hide the unspeakable emotions in her eyes.
He had been blaming himself for Maria’s disappearance all these years. But now, all of a sudden, she’s back….
Camilla fixed her gaze on Dolores’ face for two seconds. Sampson’s return to China had to have something to do with this girl.
She took a deep breath. She hadn’t seen this girl among the debutantes.
Dolores seemed to perceive his scrutinizing gaze and turned, her gaze meeting Camilla’s. She curved her lips into a smile, “Ma’am.”
Dolores could deduce from the conversation between Camilla and Sampson that Camilla was Sampson’s mother.
Camilla nodded slightly in response to Dolores’ greeting, turned and walked out the door.
Dolores lowered her head to look at Sampson who was cleaning the blood stains from his wounds, “Sampson, I didn’t expect you to be rich.”
