Unforgettable love

Chapter 1

Chapter 1:.

His body pressed against her and the warmth of his breath tickled her ear.

“Are you afraid?” he asked her.

His warm breath lingered near her ear, making her shiver and afraid to speak. Dolores Flores felt the man hold back, his voice deep and full of desire he said, “It’s not too late to change your mind.”

Dolores clenched her fists and shook her head nervously. “No, I want this.” I was in the prime of my life. And yet…

The man leaned forward and his lips brushed the side of her neck. “Fine.”

His night was long and excruciating.

When the man finally got up and went to the bathroom in the second half of the night, Dolores dragged her exhausted body out of bed. She struggled into her clothes and left the room unceremoniously.

The middle-aged woman who introduced Dolores to the business was sitting on a couch in the hotel lobby. Seeing Dolores exit the elevator, the woman stood up and handed her a black plastic bag.

“Here’s your payment.”

Without more than a second’s hesitation, Dolores took the bag from the woman’s hand. With a gesture of thanks, Dolores hurried out of the hotel, having forgotten the pain she felt in her lower body. She just wanted to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

The sky was beginning to show the first rays of light and the hospital corridor was quiet. There were two stretchers outside the operating room. Since they didn’t have the money in advance for the operation, the bodies on the stretchers were still waiting outside, needing a miracle.

Dolores’ heart ached as she approached the two.

She choked on the lump in her throat as she spoke. “I have the money. Please save my mother and brother…” she pleaded, handing the money from the bag to the doctor.

The doctor glanced at it and asked a nurse to count the sum. Only when he was sure there was all the money did he ask the nurses to take his mother to the operation.

Seeing her brother being left in the hallway, Dolores clutched at the doctor’s arms and pleaded. “What about my brother? Please save him…”

The doctor sighed. “I’m sorry; it’s too late to save him…”

Too late? The news made her scream. The intense pain she felt in her chest was as if someone had taken a hot knife and stabbed her in the chest twisting it mercilessly. Her knees gave way and she collapsed to the floor, the world around her vanished.

Eight years ago, when Dolores was ten, her father cheated and abandoned his wife and daughter. He sent them to a strange country, not caring that his wife was pregnant with their second child.

Dolores’ little brother was born soon after and was diagnosed with autism when he was three years old. During that time they lived from day to day and her brother’s condition made life more difficult for them, although Dolores loved her brother too much to bother. She and her mother worked odd jobs to make ends meet, and then a car accident took everything Dolores loved in an instant, leaving her alone in an unfriendly foreign country without a penny to her name. She was forced to go against everything she had been taught and sell herself. And yet, she was unable to save her brother.

Not everyone who suffers immense pain becomes hysterical. For some, the pain would only make them uncomfortable and perhaps make it difficult for them to breathe. For others, it would just make them feel like the sky was turning gloomy, but they just had to accept reality with a smile to feel better, because they still had a mother who was alive and needed her.

After the treatment, Dolores’ mother gradually recovered. However, upon discovering the death of her son, she had gone crazy. It was Dolores who hugged her and cried.

“Mom, I’m still here, please live for me.”

During the month she was in the hospital, Dolores’ mother, Jessica, often stared into space at the edge of her bed. Dolores knew she missed her son. If it weren’t for Dolores, Jessica might have already followed Dolores’ brother to the next world.

Because Dolores had to take care of her mother, she was expelled from school, but Dolores was glad that her mother was getting better, even if slowly.noveldrama

Dolores was carrying a bag of food as she walked into the hospital. She reached the ward and was about to open the door when she heard a voice from inside, a voice that sounded familiar. Even though it had been eight years, he still remembered seeing his father forcing his mother to sign the divorce papers. After sending them here, he hadn’t visited them even once. So why was he suddenly visiting his ex-wife in the hospital?

“Jessica, you and Mrs. Nelson Family were like sisters then. You even promised that your daughter would marry hers when they were older. It was you who made the promise, so logically it should be your daughter who married her son-”

“What do you mean? Randolph, you’re not talking about Matthew Nelson, are you?” asked Jessica, interrupting the man.

Jessica, who had lost a considerable amount of weight and strength from her hospital stay, struggled to get up. All she wanted to do was hit the man, paying no attention to his wound Had he gone mad? First he left her and her daughter in a terrible place, paying no further attention to them, and now he was insisting on marrying her daughter to the son of a woman he hadn’t seen in years.

“The eldest son of the Nelson Family is your best friend’s son. They have raised him well and you know his family status. Marrying the two would only lead to a happy life…” The man’s voice lowered as he spoke.

Dolores had seen pictures of Matthew on the news and knew he looked dignified and charming. However, he had recently been bitten by a venomous snake during a business trip abroad and was paralyzed. Because of his condition, he could no longer care for himself, let alone live alone. The woman who married him would become a widow with a husband who had not yet died. His life would be over.

Dolores pushed open the door, the forgotten bag of groceries still in her hand. “I will,” she said, her appearance startling the two before her. “I agree to marry him, on one condition.”

Randolph looked toward the door and noticed his daughter, whom he had not seen for eight years. He stared at her for several seconds.

When he left her, she was still a ten-year-old girl. Now, she was all grown up. Her skin was pale and she was extremely underweight. Her face looked small, as if it was sunken into itself. It looked as if her body had not been able to fully develop. She was nowhere near as affectionate as her youngest daughter who was at home.

The sympathy he felt for her diminished. After all, she wasn’t that pretty; it wasn’t so wrong to let her marry a cripple who couldn’t have sex. As he thought about this, his guilt faded and he believed he had done nothing wrong.

“All right, then, talk.”

“I want to go home to Mom. Give her back everything that belongs to us and I’ll agree to marry Matthew.”

Dolores clenched her fists and concentrated on her breathing to calm herself.

Although she hadn’t been in her home country for a couple of years, the Nelson Family of B-town had been quite the hot topic since she was young. The family was huge and possessed wealth in the hundreds of billions. The son of the family, therefore, was naturally very desirable.

Dolores didn’t think such a good thing would fall into her lap; even though he was paralyzed and wouldn’t be able to perform the tasks a husband should, this was the best thing that had happened to her family. It was a chance for her to not only return home, but she would also be able to help her mother recover the fortune that was part of Jessica’s wedding gifts.

“Lola…” Jessica began, using her daughter’s nickname.

Jessica wanted to advise her that marriage was no joke and to reconsider. Dolores had suffered so much at Jessica’s side and Jessica couldn’t let her daughter suffer life with a ruined marriage as well.

Sensing what Jessica meant, Randolph worried that Dolores would be swayed by Jessica and refuse to marry Matthew, so he quickly took her at her word. “Sure, as long as you agree, I’ll let you go home.”

“What about Mom’s wedding gifts?” asked Dolores in an icy voice, glaring at the man who was technically her father.

Indeed, Jessica’s wedding gifts when they were first married added up to a very large figure.

It was no small amount and Randolph was reluctant to return them.

“Papa,” Dolores began, “I suppose my little sister is beautiful. She deserves a better man than Matthew. If she marries a flawed man, her life will be ruined. Not to mention that you’ve divorced Mom. You should give back the money she gave to the Flores Family.”

Randolph felt guilty and didn’t dare look her in the eye. He had been overseas for years-how did she know that the Nelson Family’s son was disabled? He couldn’t tell that Dolores was guessing and didn’t know about the snake bite.

Realizing that the man she was going to marry was someone abnormal, Randolph gritted his teeth and said, “I’ll give it to you when you marry him.”

His youngest daughter was as precious and loving as a flower. He could never let her marry a man who was not capable of providing her with a normal life. Noble as he was, he was no different from a tramp if he could not do his duty as a husband. At the thought of his youngest daughter, Randolph no longer felt as uncomfortable as before, but his dislike of Dolores increased when she insisted on taking money from him.

Randolph gave her a sharp look and said, “Your mother didn’t bring you up right. You have no manners.”

Dolores wanted to ask him what it was like to be completely free of parental responsibilities. He had abandoned her and didn’t care about her at all. However, he couldn’t say that as his bargaining chip was too weak and he could lose her if he provoked her.

“Get ready. We’ll be back tomorrow,” Randolph said, leaving the room with a gesture.
